Kefir Culture – A Simple Way to Create Naturally Fermented Probiotic Drinks at Home
Bring the tradition of fermentation into your kitchen with our Maintenance Free Kefir Culture. Designed for effortless use, simply add the culture to milk, juice, coconut water, or sweetened water and allow the natural fermentation process to transform it into a refreshing, probiotic-rich drink.
Kefir is a naturally bubbly, fermented beverage celebrated for its tangy flavour, versatility, and impressive probiotic properties. During fermentation, beneficial bacteria and yeast work together to convert sugars into lactic acid, creating a lightly thickened, pleasantly tart drink while helping establish an environment where friendly microorganisms can thrive.
How Kefir Culture Works
When added to a suitable liquid, the kefir microorganisms feed on available sugars. In milk, they consume much of the lactose and produce lactic acid, which naturally lowers the pH, thickens the milk, and creates kefir’s characteristic tangy taste. As fermentation continues, the microorganisms produce kefiran—a natural polysaccharide matrix that helps bind the culture together and supports the formation of traditional kefir grain-like structures.
These naturally occurring bacteria and yeast are adapted to survive the digestive system, making kefir a valuable source of live probiotics. Regular consumption of fermented foods may help support a balanced gut microbiome, digestive wellness, and overall immune health.
